Interview with Voodoo DJ

Here is a small interview with Voodoo Jam DJ Matthew Play.

Name? Born Matthew Brian Simmons. I go by the pseudonym Matthew Play.

Age? 27

Hometown? Amite, Louisiana

How long have you been a D.J.? I first learned to mix @ the age of 15 or so, but I have been writing and producing music since I was 14 in a number of different projects before focusing solely on electronic dance music.

But in the end I have to feel it out and go from there. What you planned on playing isn’t always what is going to go over best. Gotta come prepared.

What was your experience from last years event? Last year was so much fun. It was great having riders from all ends of the earth coming together for an event like this. The interaction between the crowd, the riders, and myself was amazing. I look forward to the same thing this year.

What is your favorite music to mix at an event like Voodoo Jam? I feel like at an event like this it’s good to keep that energy level up. I feed off the crowd and the competitors. I hope they do the same in turn. The type of music that, to me, encompasses this is Indie/Nu Disco. It’s really fresh and young. Artists like Tiga, Boys Noize, etc.

Last words? I just wanna thank Terry for giving me the opportunity to be involved in something like this. Keep an eye out for upcoming events, mixes, and releases @ www.myspace.com/matthewplay
